...I'm just gonna keep giving you monsters. Maybe someday I'll get into the monster drawing hall of fame. Working on a preschool show will make anyone start to draw evil things on their free time.

P.s.- Normally i go to the drawing club in L.A. on Tuesday nights... But, as some of you know: the bar has closed, there is a cover charge at the door, all the old models have left, no more fire juggling or areal acrobatics, the music sucks now, and it is not nearly the happenin' place that it once was.
...anyone know of any happenin' Tuesday night spots?

You know, I hate scary movies... They give me the hee-bee-gee-bees and i get all spooked out... But for some reason drawing with different colors (other the human skin tone) makes me want to draw monsters, aliens, and other creepy looking stuff. It just seems to fit. So, yeah, here's another random sketchbook drawing.

So... I always give my brother shit for little problems in his photographs, even though he takes the best pictures ever! I guess its just my way of getting him to come to my blog to give me shit too (which he does ever so often), so i will work harder! Anyways, you have to check out my brother Rob's photography blog. Pirates and Cowboys 2. (Plus some of my thoughts on drawing.)

That top drawing is one of my most favorite recent drawings. Its so fun and exciting to create these characters with different emotions and attitudes. (Especially a whole series of drawings in only 5-10 min each.)

Emotions, attitudes, and acting, that's the fun stuff to concentrate on...But, it's so helpful to have a solid foundation in drawing, so you can clearly express what you are THINKING about throughout the drawing (other then making a nice drawing).

Thinking about expressions, attitudes and acting during your drawing will make it good. Because it creates the most entertainment for viewers.

This top one for example; The only way i was able to create a single drawing with such entertainment value is to ONLY focus on the entertainment value while drawing it... (no thoughts about "how does that elbow look," or "how big is his head," and so on).

The Walt Stanchfield notes are great for learning this kind of stuff. Search for them on Google to find them.

Figure drawing is the best way to improve your technical drawing skills... BUT, working in cartoons I am beginning to see that the idea is equally, if not more important then the beautiful drawing. So, i am once again starting to work on my own cartoon ideas. (Coming soon...)

^^^I Really like this one the best and it was drawn in under two minutes. Shows how important those first two minutes are.^^^

So, I've been taking this 'force' class with Mike Mattesi and it is pretty cool! He talks a lot about how the experience you go through during a drawing is what will make it interesting or not... and how the drawing is a by-product of these experiences. I totally agree with that and i think it is something every artist should realize... unless you want to come up with model sheet drawings every time you sit down to draw.

All these girly drawings are pretty realistic. Its so hard to make a girl drawing appealing (especially realistically), but i think i did a pretty good job on that top one... What do you think?

Is this how girls REALLY dressed in the old west? I see the history books left that out, eh?

And last but not least, an anime'ish style cowgirl... I guess i wasn't paying much attention to what i was doing.

Here is some recent drawings done at the late night club in LA. Sometimes i get pretty bored of stiff model poses and have fun drawing people sitting around. Most of the time i end up with better drawings then when i draw the uninspired model.

This guy was rocking a scruffy-ass MO-HAWK.

This guy was pretty strange... It's one thing to come to the club to drink, smoke, and hang out... But this guy wasn't hanging out with anyone... He was just chillin'... Standing around Lookin' cool.

This guy was listening to music on his rockin' headphones!

I have recently fallen in love with drawing different hair types and styles.

So... Here's a few more 10 minute drawings! Once i started seeing anatomy i couldnt help but capitolize. I started off this session really cartoony (like the one at the bottom), and ended it with the drawings on top. I really had fun with em all and now i have to just figure out what i did so i can do it again...

Well, here they are! The next batch of narrative drawings done at The Drawing Club. The model was pretty good and the theme was fun. I am a LOT looser here then when doing my pure figurative work. I think that practicing both sides of the spectrum is rewarding. It creates many options that can be used whenever needed.

I think the model just got tired of posing.
I try to only use adjectives in my head as i draw. "Hairy" "Dirty" "angry" "filthy" "happy" "buldging"...heh....etc.

Just a pointer....Stay away from nouns... If you use nouns you will have a drawing full of things like "arm" "knee" "elbow" "head" "foot" "hand"....sounds pretty boring huh? ... it will look boring too.

Oh Yeah!...i am totally down with anyone tearing into my drawings... if they suck tell me so and why... I think critisisim is...uh..well..critical to success. Thanks!

This was done straight with felt pen. No underdrawing....which is pretty much a mistake, especially after seeing Dan Panosian and Jeff Johnson's work....WOW!!!!...SKILLS!!!

This one kinda ended up reminding my of an 80's hair salon ad....kinda creepy eh?
Tough ass with Nun-chucks!... this model is great, he always does great poses.

Zorro is friggin awesome! I do most of my narrative drawing at Bob Kato's Tuesday night workshop, "TheDrawingClub.com" I would hightly recommend it to EVERYONE who likes to draw! If you decide to come... make sure to find me and say hi!

Rik Maki is awesome so i decided draw like him for a while. Figure out what makes him tick. I have no dedicated style for myself.... for those of you who love "styles." I worked on these whole pages as if they were one drawing... doing ALL the shapes... then ALL the expressions... then ALL the costumes....etc. I recommend it to everyone. It frees you from focusing to much on one drawing.

Narf!... I met the voice of "Pinky" and "Wacko"...."Hellllllllllllllllllo Nurse.".... Amazing.
